Established in 1997, One to One was one of the first organisations to offer our model of small bespoke homes for young people offering a real alternative to large residential homes for children who could not settle in a foster placement.
About One to One
We continue to offer single and dual occupancy homes, all registered with OFSTED, for young people between 7 and 17 years old. We provide an intensive level of supervision in a caring and professional manner, with the emphasis on positive change.
We provide a holistic, therapeutic package, which following an initial assessment can include individual sessions with a qualified, experienced therapist, as part of a plan tailored to the individual needs of each young person. We have a range of specialists whose services we use to meet the individual needs of the young person e.g. play therapists, therapy delivered through activities, equine therapy, as well as more traditional talking therapy. We have established links with specialists in working with CSE, drug and alcohol therapeutic services and sexually harmful behaviour.
Pace Trained
Our Teams are PACE trained and this approach informs our practice on how we deliver our service directly to the young person. Our team members receive regular training and supervision to support and equip them for working with, and understanding behaviour which challenges and how this can be presented. We have experience working with a wide range of behaviours which can be challenging to manage including sexually harmful behaviour, self-injury, CSE, offending behaviour, trauma, attachment disorder and ASD. Everyone is trained to use de-escalation and physical intervention if needed to keep a young person safe. Our homes are designed to be welcoming and comfortable and young people are encouraged to personalise their bedrooms. The home can be made safe as and when required to minimise risk, damage or harm to everyone.
Solid Foundations
One to one practice has solid foundations rooted in providing an environment that is calm, structured and predictable. This reduces anxiety, making young people feel safe and begin to trust that adults will do what they say and respond in predictable safe ways. We are interested in the young person and their views and keen to build relationships based on honesty and transparency where adults take responsibility for decision-making in an age-appropriate parental manner.
Independence Training
We work in a way that promotes self-confidence and builds self-esteem, encouraging young people to express their opinions and take responsibility for their actions. Young people are supported to be involved in the local community and make appropriate friendships.
We are mindful of the challenges that present themselves to young people when they leave care and we start work on preparing young people with the skills they will need to live within society as soon as they arrive. Our independence programme encompasses practical skills as well as social skills, decision making, where to seek help, problem solving, building and maintaining relationships etc. Ongoing work is carried out covering risk awareness, anger management, social skills, managing relationships, and keeping safe.
We Need You!
We believe that only our best is good enough! To achieve this our teams are well-trained, skilled and supported to continually develop their practice.
We are always open to adding to our team people who are passionate and enthusiastic about making a difference to the lives of young people. If you are keen to learn and highly motivated we want to hear from you.
